Frequently Asked Questions

What is Counselling?

Counselling is a specialized field in health service provision. During the counselling process, a trained and Licensed Professional (called a Counselling Psychologist or Counsellor) interacts with a client (someone who seeks counselling) and helps him/her explore the issues that are posing challenges to his/her meaningful living and full functioning.

Counsellors do not give advice. They help a client think through various options and empower him/her to make good decisions, based on tested theories, that help the client to overcome his/her challenges. Counsellors do not just “talk” with their clients, they also do standard assessments that help them understand clients’ situation better. They may also refer one to other professionals if one needs their help too.

Counselling can be done in a one-on-one setting or in a group setting. With the CoRe e-Counselling programme, our Counsellors are using the group counselling approach which means that they will facilitate various topics or themes that will help you interact with others in a group setting.

How Can Counselling Help Me?

Together with your Counsellor, you will find workable solutions to your challenges and begin to live a more meaningful life and possibly restore to previous level of full functioning. Although it may elicit uncomfortable thoughts and feelings, or may lead to the recall of troubling memories, yet it will help you to explore issues that prevent you from enjoying life fully and then you will begin to live a more fulfilling life.

Is Counselling always face-to-face?

No.

Maybe there isn’t a counsellor in your community that can help with your specific issue, or maybe you’re interested in finding a digital solution. Online Counselling makes the counselling process easier, more convenient, and much more interesting. We offer a digital connection across the country and around the world.

Are Counselling services free?

Counselling is a specialized field of health service provision but since it is not yet covered under the National Health Insurance Scheme, clients need to pay for the service. A Counsellor may offer *probono* services sometimes, meaning that he/she might not bill a client or some clients. This is done as a service to humanity. It only means that someone else is paying for the service anyway.

Under the CoRe programme,  however, counselling services are free since they have already been paid for by our partners.
