LAUNCH OF THE COVID-19 RECOVERY AND RESILIENCE (CoRe) PROGRAMME
ACCRA, Ghana – The COVID-19 Recovery and Resilience Programme (CoRe) was launched recently. The CoRe programme is an initiative of Springboard Road Show Foundation in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation and Solidaridad.
The CoRe programme is designed to provide support for young people in Ghana by mentoring and equipping them with relevant skills to enable them to survive and thrive during and after the disruptions of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The CoRe Programme is targeting 692,000 young people across Ghana in both the formal and informal sector. It is expected to run from June to November 2020. The local collaborators of the programme are the National Service Scheme, Ghana Psychological Association, and Ghana National Association of the Deaf.
The CoRe programme will provide support to the beneficiaries in areas such as:
- Building resilience
- Health awareness
- Wellness and safety
- Building relevant workplace skills
- Job readiness in a post-pandemic era
The CoRe programme will involve weekly Radio e-mentoring and e-counselling sessions in various languages as well as online coaching for the beneficiaries.
Speaking at the virtual launch on Joy 99.7 FM, the Executive Director, Mrs. Comfort Ocran stated that the CoRe Programme is an extension of work Springboard Road Show Foundation has been doing with young people through interventions like the Springboard Road Show, and the Virtual University over the past 14 years. She said, “The CoRe Programme is meant to deal with the socio- economic impact in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.”
At the launch, the Regional Director, Western, Central and Northern Africa for the Mastercard Foundation, Ms. Nathalie Akon Gabala, said
“The Mastercard Foundation has been working on the continent for over a decade to increase access to education and financial services. In the wake of COVID-19, the Foundation created the Mastercard Foundation COVID-19 Recovery and Resilience Program to support communities and institutions on the continent to rebuild their economies and emerge more resilient post the pandemic.”
Also, the Ag Country Manager of Solidaridad, Mr. Bossman Owusu said, “It gets to that point where
we need to provide counselling to help them cope with the stress and anxiety that has been brought on by COVID-19. The CoRe programme has the back of all young people who have put in very great efforts to support agriculture.”
Finally, representatives of beneficiaries of the programme shared how they were excited about the CoRe programme and its projected impact on the lives of their members.
